Why you NEED Interns
As some of you may know, I started my career at SRS as an intern. I will be the first one to advocate for interns in the office. Here are some of the reasons why you should too:
Interns are the future.
If a company wants to survive through the generations, you have to hire the generations. Getting strong candidates through internships can get your company prepared for the up and coming generational changes.
Interns for school credit.
Some universities require an internship for their students to graduate. These students are usually almost done with college by the time they
get one, so these students tend to be very dedicated and hardworking because their next step in life will be finding a full-time job, and the experience is invaluable.
Interns can help with turnover.
If your company deals with frequent, or even infrequent, turnover having a healthy flow of interns will give you a database of already trained candidates for the future to consider. You already know their personalities, their strengths, and how they work. It could cut the hiring time down for those times of turnover.
Interns keep the office fresh.
Seeing new faces in the office can reinvigorate the office or change the atmosphere. Everyone working has the opportunity to shine and become a great mentor to the bright-eyed interns. Interns will keep everyone in the office on their toes, and there is no better way to learn than to teach.
Interns can help YOU.
If unpaid, interns
cannot fill open positions in your office, but can help do little things and learn how to do some paperwork, go on meetings, remember appointments, and assist in projects. This can help increase workflow and pace. They can also bring fresh ideas and new thought processes to the table during a creative slump.
Hiring an intern is invaluable for both parties, and can turn into a great long-term solution for your hiring needs.
If you are looking to begin an internship program, send us a message on our Contact Us page, and we can help you sort out the kind of work an intern would handle, when you would start taking them on, and we can even help write intern-specific procedures for your handbook.
