A Reimagined Mindset

Life is full of change, and how we react and adapt to that change often defines our success. We must always be embracing whatever is coming next in order to remain relevant. Sometimes the path to growth requires a new way of thinking, and in business, that can really only be done through people. But where should the focus lie as we rethink our strategies?

Attraction

In order to grow, businesses must begin by attracting this next generation of future leaders. Ignoring the importance of attracting young talent could be critical to your business. Gen Z and Millennials already comprise almost half of the workforce, and it is projected that number will rise to 75% by 2025. Simply put, businesses cannot afford – both literally and figuratively – to get stuck in the drudgery of old school thinking. We have to garner all the upcoming talent of the next generation that we can and position them within our organizations in a way that not only sets them up for ultimate success, but allows for us to remain relevant for years to come. But, hiring talent isn’t about just attracting people to your company. It’s simply step number one.

Engagement

This step is just as, if not more, important in both drawing in and retaining the best fit employees. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 25-34 year olds are only staying in any given position for less than three years. This alone is a wakeup call that businesses desperately need to rethink their engagement strategies. Given the current rate of employee turnover and the expectations for it to rise at least 50% higher than most businesses have experienced, your engaging relationship with talent must start at inception. Engagement needs to begin before the hire is even made, and then you have to stay engaged in your employees’ long-term interests. The cost of retention is no joke, not to mention the toll it takes on your bottom line.
